Pulling an Oral Roberts on ALL of you!

Think back with me to the moment Oral Roberts claimed that GOD would call him home if he didn't raise 1,000,000 dollars. What a BRILLIANT ultimatum! Who dared call Oral's bluff? The believers across the world coughed up the ransom, and now Mr. Roberts will always be known as the best marketer in the entire world.

I'm no Reverend BUT I am ready to pull an ORAL on my readers and silent lurkers if you don't COMMENT. I'm not asking for money, people! A simple click on the either the blogger comments or Haloscan, one or two lines of either obscene flattery or boring compliments will do.

My friends Crystal and Mimi have tried different methods to elicit comments. Crystal uses guilt mixed with humor to coax out the readers still hiding in the dark, but Mimi just calls people out with threats (and she could back them up, let me tell you). Maybe by invoking the Roberts Scam/Ordeal will touch your hearts or minds.

I doubt GOD will call me home if you don't start commenting BUT let's not tempt him, okay???

  • I refuse to be coerced into commenting by this blatant attempt to guilt people into it. If God does call you, I hope he calls COLLECT! ;p

  • Tish my dear, you need not worry about comments for you are blessed.

As for this other guy OREAL Robber,
he was con- artist that never went to jail. TO think they sent Jimmy Baker to prison after he setup by the wonder Jerry Faultwell kinda makes you wonder about justice.

But make no mistake justice will be served on the day of the Great White Throne.... Be ready just be ready...

  • I'll bet he could have gotten more money by promising to never be heard from again if he collected enough. I would have been all over that.

  • Okay Miss Tish, sign me up. I’ve been a lurker for quite some time, so I guess with the threat of your possible demise, I’ll come out of hiding and make a comment. I confess to having you plugged in to my favorites list and reading your thoughts regularly. Probably the main reason that I haven’t commented before is because you and I usually seem to be on the same page on the issues about which you write and other than a “you go girl” or whatever the latest PC cheer is, my comments would be mostly redundant. I find your blog interesting and well written and I’m glad to see we have young ladies with such talent as yours in our fair state of Texas. Personally, I’m not really into blogging (my site's dormant), but do post an occasional story in e-zines such as USA Deep South, The Dead Mule, and others and I participate in several writers’ message board sites. Anyway, you’ve elicited a comment. Keep writing---many folks enjoy your work.

  • I do hope God lets you hang around longer because I love reading your blog. Now if that isn't a reason to live, I don't know what is!

  • Did the Oral Roberts scam really work?

Does this thereby qualify as a not-called-home comment?

By Blogger Skunkfeathers, at 10:14 AM

  • I've been commenting since I've been back around the blogosphere!!

By Anonymous TW, at 10:22 AM

  • Well, I comment by saying I love your blog. This also helps me out with my pledge to the Complementing Commenter to make 100 compliments this summer. I've never heard your voice but when I read your work, I hear my friend Barb's voice - she is also an excellent writer.

  • Ya know I love ya! I just don't have much to say lately.

  • too good, this one is, tish! I'm not ready to see you pass on and miss some of your wonderful writing...so I'm commenting...just to be safe.

  • Hi!

By Blogger Paul, at 12:11 PM

  • I'm with you, Tish. I'm inordinately excited when I get a comment or two, and bummed when I don't. Sheesh, my age-old inferiority complex kicks in. Am I not good enough?

And then you read these blogs that have 20 or 30 comments trailing down the screen. HOW do they do it? Are they that much more interesting than me? Dang, I thought I was pretty interesting.

So, you're not alone in your desire for comments. I always thought of you as one of the "popular girls" in the blogosphere. But, I guess it just goes to show that everybody likes feedback. So, here goes...Tish, you're funny and awesome and your blog rocks! And you live in Texas...how can you be so blessed?!?

By Blogger Cindy, at 12:44 PM

  • By the way, I link to you, Tish. You've been on my blogroll for quite some time now. :)

  • Tish my good woman - you have no need to beg for validation, I am sure with your wit you inspire intimidation.

Your looks, your smarts, your brains, your style -
I am sure it is driving these boring people wild.

They can't comment because they have no words,
The things they type come out all absurd.

So don't fret my good lady, don't fret at all,
It's not your writing and it's not their fault.

Just keep on writing and just wait and see,
they come around and start commenting.

It just takes practice to improve their skill,
do not force them against their will.

Or else they might lash out with some inane poetry,
they will post it in your comments anonymously.

But not me, oh no, I have no shame,
I have got the goods on this commenting game.

I leave them lengthy, I leave them long,
With eddo of posted note - you just can't go wrong.

By Blogger Eddo, at 4:20 PM

  • Well, hell, do you think I could earn some money like that?!

By Blogger Tammy, at 8:05 PM

  • I remember that year. I was practicing in Oklahoma City. Bumper stickers started appearing on the cars that read:

    ORAL TO HEAVEN IN '87!!!!!

    My favorite sticker to date.

By Blogger srp, at 9:41 AM

  • This is the first time I've stopped by and I surely can't have you up and being called home by GOD on my concious. I hope your happy now.

By Blogger kimmyk, at 9:29 PM

  • Not one to tempt fate, let me add my love to the arena.

I've decided to neglect my readers and their comments just like my bank rejects me and my concerns. They've made millions that way!
